Inventory truth
Understand exactly when material is created, usable, moved or reduced.
Overview
Planning, sourcing, purchase orders and advance shipping notices describe intent; they do not create inventory. Physical inventory begins with an attributable receipt against valid authority.
Received material normally enters quarantine and is not usable until independent inspection acceptance and controlled putaway. Issues, transfers, returns and dispositions change custody only through their own authorised transactions.
Dashboards and workflow evidence read inventory state. They do not silently manufacture, release or consume stock as a side effect.
A serialized receipt may be saved as an identity-pending draft. Previewing a bulk scan persists nothing; committing the exact identity count freezes one immutable capture batch and reserved physical identities, but inventory remains zero until the cleared, complete receipt is separately submitted to quarantine.
When one enforced BATCH or BATCH_AND_SERIAL item arrives under several supplier lots, Stores may freeze one logical receipt as 2–50 distinct one-batch child lines. Their exact normalized quantity sum must equal the aggregate, and authority, tolerance and ASN reconciliation remain one aggregate decision. The immutable split group and every identity-pending child still create no inventory until the complete cleared receipt is submitted to quarantine.
Shelf-life receipts derive expiry from the manufacture date and the pinned revision’s total life when expiry is omitted. A supplied expiry may shorten that life but cannot extend it when manufacture is known; future manufacture dates are rejected. Every physical lot must meet the current approved site minimum remaining life, including the exact day boundary. These site controls and blocked-material status are checked again at quarantine submission, so an older draft can require review after a policy or date change.
