2B. Assembly, recovery, maintenance, effectivity and approved alternates

Execute approved catalogue structures and lifecycle rules while preserving exact component genealogy, serialized serviceability and independent operational decisions.

Purpose

Execute approved catalogue structures and lifecycle rules while preserving exact component genealogy, serialized serviceability and independent operational decisions.

Roles

Materials Planner, Stores Officer, Quality Inspector, QA Head, Auditor

Example

Assembly E2E-CAT-ACT-ASM serial ASM-0001; torque tool E2E-CAT-TW-120 serial TW120-0001; revision B effective for ASM-0001 onward; approved alternate E2E-CAT-BOLT-M8-ALT.

Before you begin

  • Relevant item revisions and assembly BOM are approved
  • Required component and serialized stock exists for execution tests
  • Different named users are available for planning, consumption/completion and release

Lifecycle execution concepts

Assembly work order

A planned output pinned to one released, currently effective BOM revision. Reservation snapshots exact component identities and any approved alternate conversion.

As-built genealogy

The immutable parent-to-component and component-to-parent links created from the exact consumed batch or serial allocations.

Disassembly recovery

Controlled consumption of a completed parent assembly followed by quarantined recovery, repair or scrap disposition of its as-built components.

Managed instance

A positive-stock serialized TOOL or ASSET registered with custody, serviceability, maintenance interval and append-only lifecycle events.

Maintenance work order

Preventive, corrective or calibration-controlled work that blocks the exact serial while in progress and needs independent release.

Effectivity

An approved revision applicability window by date and optional serial range or batch wildcard, enforced against the exact output or source identity.

Approved alternate

A dated, directional substitution with conversion and conditions. Assembly reservation considers it only after source stock and retains its source-equivalent quantity.

Impact snapshot

The stock, BOM, open demand, reservation, disassembly and maintenance references captured when a lifecycle rule is submitted or decided.

Procedure

  1. 1

Plan an assembly work order against the released BOM and exact parent identity, then reserve components using FEFO. Confirm source material is considered before an approved alternate.

  2. 2

Use a different user to scan and consume every reserved source identity; use another independent user to complete the parent after passing configuration, workmanship and identity checks.

  3. 3

Trace the parent and a consumed component in both directions and confirm the exact as-built allocation and any alternate conversion are retained.

  4. 4

Create a disassembly order for the completed parent, execute recovery independently, reconcile every planned component between recovered and scrapped, then use a different user to disposition quarantined recovery lines.

  5. 5

Register a positive-stock serialized tool or asset, plan maintenance, confirm the planner cannot start it, and verify the exact serial is blocked and unserviceable until an independent passing release. Calibration completion must reference a current passing certificate for that serial.

  6. 6

Create and submit effectivity and alternate drafts. Confirm the originator cannot approve them, overlapping replacement is controlled, and a different authorised user records the final decision with the impact snapshot.

  7. 7

As Auditor, verify assembly, disassembly, maintenance and rule events in traceability without moving stock.

Expected result

  • Assembly planning uses only approved and currently effective catalogue definitions
  • Planner, consumer and completer independence is enforced
  • As-built and recovered genealogy remain bidirectional
  • Disassembly quantities fully reconcile before completion
  • Under-maintenance, unserviceable, retired and overdue serials cannot be used
  • Effectivity and alternates are independently approved and enforced against exact identities
  • Every rule decision retains an impact snapshot and audit actor
