Tutorial: Follow the first controlled manufacturing build
Walk one product from released Engineering definition to MBOM, readiness, execution, accepted as-built configuration and product acceptance.
Learning goal
New Manufacturing Engineers, planners, supervisors, operators, Quality reviewers and Configuration Managers.
Know the correct screen sequence, role handoff and evidence expected at each stage of an independently controlled build.
Before you begin
- Use an authorised training/disposable tenant or a completed record in read-only mode
- An exact Engineering PLM package and product baseline are released
- Existing Assembly work, material custody and CLEAN controlled evidence are available
- Different named people cover the required Engineering, Production, Quality and Configuration decisions
Observation-first is the default. Do not create retained customer, procurement, receipt, inventory, Quality, Engineering or Manufacturing records merely to complete a tutorial.
Guided journey
- 1EngineeringOpen /engineering/plm
Verify the released design handoff
- Acting role
- Product Engineer / Configuration Manager
- What to do
- Open the current released PLM version and confirm the exact variant, baseline, assembly CI, recursive EBOM, requirements/V&V and fingerprints.
- What you should observe
- Manufacturing receives one immutable source; it does not select a convenient older design.
May changeNothing during review.
Must remain unchangedThe product baseline, catalogue BOM and inventory remain owned by their source modules.
- 2ManufacturingOpen /manufacturing/mbom
Release the manufacturing definition
- Acting role
- Manufacturing Engineer → Product Engineer → Production Manager
- What to do
- Translate every released design line exactly once, assign operation/supply/issue evidence, submit, obtain design approval and obtain independent Production release.
- What you should observe
- The released MBOM freezes exact material coverage, quantities and routing.
May changeManufacturing definition versions and attributable reviews.
Must remain unchangedNo material is bought, reserved, issued or moved.
- 3ManufacturingOpen /manufacturing/execution-packs
Release software and test controls
- Acting role
- Manufacturing, Product, Quality and Production authorities
- What to do
- Release the exact software/firmware manifest and test procedures, adapters, parameters and hashes for the current plan.
- What you should observe
- Scheduling and controlled execution fail closed without the current accepted definition.
May changeSigned definition-pack state and evidence links.
Must remain unchangedNo machine command, software download or safety action is performed by Moduvio.
- 4ManufacturingOpen /manufacturing/build-control
Plan the exact build
- Acting role
- Manufacturing Engineer / Production Planner
- What to do
- Create and release the plan from the exact MBOM, then schedule it only against the matching existing Assembly output/work order.
- What you should observe
- Operations/material rows are copied from the released source and cannot be casually substituted.
May changePlan version and build scheduling evidence.
Must remain unchangedAssembly and Inventory retain work-order and custody authority.
- 5ManufacturingOpen /manufacturing/instructions
Release visual work instructions
- Acting role
- Manufacturing Engineer → Production Manager
- What to do
- Attach ordered controlled-media steps to the exact released plan or operation, submit them and obtain independent release before a fresh dispatch is planned.
- What you should observe
- The package fingerprints exact image/video/drawing versions, acknowledgements, evidence requirements and Quality holds.
May changeImmutable instruction definition and release evidence only.
Must remain unchangedNo execution, machine command, generic workflow, stock or custody transaction is created.
- 6Manufacturing / Inventory / QualityOpen /manufacturing/tooling
Release exact tooling controls
- Acting role
- Manufacturing Engineer → Production Manager
- What to do
- Extend each existing approved serialized tool/fixture resource with immutable life, inspection, preset and crib controls; for fixtures release the exact component and calendar configuration.
- What you should observe
- A later fresh dispatch pins the exact control and fixture fingerprints and finite capacity loads.
May changeTooling/fixture definition and release evidence only.
Must remain unchangedNo item, resource, physical identity, quantity, calibration, maintenance, dispatch or machine command is created.
- 7ManufacturingOpen /manufacturing/readiness
Prove readiness and finite capacity
- Acting role
- Engineer → Manager → Planner → Supervisor
- What to do
- Use approved resources, exact calibrated tooling, current competency/qualification, calendar/rate versions and an independent supervisor-released dispatch.
- What you should observe
- The named operator and exact resource window are fixed before execution.
May changeDispatch, capacity-load and approval evidence.
Must remain unchangedCalibration, HR identity, maintenance, stock, payroll and accounting source records are not changed.
- 8ManufacturingOpen /manufacturing/build-control
Execute in sequence
- Acting role
- Named Production Operator
- What to do
- Perform each released operation in order, record balanced WIP/labour and type-specific evidence, and use a fresh dispatch after a failed attempt.
- What you should observe
- Attempts are immutable; failures remain visible and require the exact manufacturing NCR path.
May changeOperation attempts, consumed dispatch loads and immutable cost evidence.
Must remain unchangedModuvio does not command equipment or silently consume inventory.
- 9Manufacturing / Quality / EngineeringOpen /manufacturing/execution-packs
Accept results and as-built
- Acting role
- Operator → Quality Inspector → Configuration Manager
- What to do
- Compile the exact current results, obtain independent Quality acceptance, capture genealogy-derived as-built evidence, then obtain separate Quality and Configuration acceptance.
- What you should observe
- The product unit reaches BUILT only through the exact accepted fingerprints and source evidence.
May changeResult/as-built versions, reviews and the matching product-unit REGISTERED → BUILT transition.
Must remain unchangedStock, assembly allocations, physical identities and source baseline remain unchanged.
- 10Manufacturing / Programme / QualityOpen /manufacturing/acceptance
Complete acceptance and trace
- Acting role
- Operator → Quality → Project / Contract
- What to do
- Record FAT, SAT and commissioning in sequence, then trace the finished unit back through as-built, operation and material genealogy.
- What you should observe
- Contract evidence is retained without pretending an external message, delivery or customer signature was sent.
May changeAcceptance campaign/result evidence only.
Must remain unchangedThe unit remains BUILT and customer delivery/custody is outside this flow.
