Moduvio fundamentals for manufacturing teams
Learn the identities, authority boundaries and four product views that make the rest of Moduvio understandable.
Learning goal
Anyone new to regulated manufacturing, PLM, inventory custody, production or Quality.
Be able to explain where one product record belongs, which module owns the next decision and whether an action changes physical inventory.
Before you begin
- A named training account with the correct site and role
- Permission to view the relevant workspaces
- No need to create records—this tutorial is observation-first
Observation-first is the default. Do not create retained customer, procurement, receipt, inventory, Quality, Engineering or Manufacturing records merely to complete a tutorial.
Guided journey
- 1ModulesOpen /workspaces/engineering
Start with the digital thread
- Acting role
- Every learner
- What to do
- Read Engineering, Supply, Inventory, Manufacturing and Quality in the module catalogue, then open their workspace overviews in Moduvio.
- What you should observe
- Each workspace states its purpose, available capability and authority boundary.
May changeNothing; this is orientation only.
Must remain unchangedNo item, product, supplier, stock, build or Quality record is created.
- 2Engineering and InventoryOpen /catalogue-governance
Separate definition from quantity
- Acting role
- Every learner
- What to do
- Compare a catalogue item, a product configuration/baseline and the permission-aware stock context for one selected identity.
- What you should observe
- An item defines what something is, a baseline defines the approved product configuration, Physical on hand includes visible positive states, and Available to issue includes only unrestricted issuable stock. Without stock:read the surface says Stock visibility not permitted rather than showing zero.
May changeNothing; catalogue and stock-context reads are read-only.
Must remain unchangedOpening, editing or approving an item definition never manufactures or changes stock, custody or identity.
- 3Engineering and ManufacturingOpen /product-configuration
Learn the four product views
- Acting role
- Every learner
- What to do
- Identify as-designed, as-planned, as-built and future as-maintained evidence for one product unit.
- What you should observe
- Released PLM/baseline is as-designed; released MBOM/routing is as-planned; accepted genealogy is as-built; Sustainment will own the broader as-maintained view.
May changeNothing unless an authorised user deliberately performs a governed transition.
Must remain unchangedReading comparison evidence cannot alter source configuration or custody.
- 4All modulesOpen /
Recognise maker-checker handoffs
- Acting role
- Every learner
- What to do
- Open one assigned or completed record and identify its author, reviewer, executor and verifier.
- What you should observe
- Moduvio may require different named users even when one person holds several permissions.
May changeOnly an explicit permitted transition changes workflow status.
Must remain unchangedNavigation visibility never replaces the API's role, site, clearance and separation checks.
