Tutorial: Trace a finished product
Read the complete proof chain from released product definition to exact material, operation, as-built and acceptance evidence.
Learning goal
Auditors, Configuration Managers, Quality reviewers, programme users and production leads.
Answer what was designed, planned, consumed, executed, accepted and retained for one serialized product unit without changing it.
Before you begin
- A completed product unit/build with accepted as-built evidence
- Read access to Engineering, Manufacturing, controlled documents and traceability
- Site and clearance scope covering the record
Observation-first is the default. Do not create retained customer, procurement, receipt, inventory, Quality, Engineering or Manufacturing records merely to complete a tutorial.
Guided journey
- 1EngineeringOpen /product-configuration
Identify the unit and baseline
- Acting role
- Reviewer
- What to do
- Open the product unit and record its exact variant, baseline and configuration status.
- What you should observe
- The as-designed source is an immutable released snapshot.
May changeNothing.
Must remain unchangedProduct and inventory records remain untouched.
- 2ManufacturingOpen /manufacturing/mbom
Verify the production definition
- Acting role
- Reviewer
- What to do
- Follow the PLM handoff to the released MBOM and then to the released manufacturing plan.
- What you should observe
- Every design line, gross/net quantity and operation allocation is exact and versioned.
May changeNothing.
Must remain unchangedReview cannot create material demand or stock.
- 3ManufacturingOpen /manufacturing/build-control
Review dispatch and execution
- Acting role
- Reviewer
- What to do
- Read ordered attempts, named operator/dispatch, resource/calibration references, WIP/labour and immutable result evidence.
- What you should observe
- Failures/retries remain visible and latest passing evidence does not erase them.
May changeNothing.
Must remain unchangedNo operation is replayed and no resource or cost record is edited.
- 4Inventory / AssemblyOpen /traceability
Follow material genealogy
- Acting role
- Reviewer
- What to do
- Trace the finished identity backward to exact batches, serials, containers and allocations, then forward from one component to its parent product.
- What you should observe
- The same physical and custody identities connect the ledger to as-built evidence.
May changeNothing.
Must remain unchangedTraceability is a query; it never moves or releases material.
- 5Manufacturing / QualityOpen /manufacturing/acceptance
Confirm as-built and acceptance
- Acting role
- Reviewer
- What to do
- Verify accepted results, Quality and Configuration decisions, FAT/SAT/commissioning sequence and controlled evidence hashes.
- What you should observe
- The as-built and acceptance chain points to exact immutable sources and accountable actors.
May changeNothing.
Must remain unchangedReview does not claim customer delivery, external acknowledgement or service release.
