Batch and serial traceability
Trace one authorised batch or serial backward to receipt and forward through inspection, append-only movements, current custody, related controls and document references without inventing graph relationships.
Screen orientation
Identity discovery, genealogy and dossier output require traceability authority and are filtered in PostgreSQL by assigned sites and classification before identities or context are returned. Classified reads and exports are attributable.
Enter, scan, autocomplete or browse an identity, choose or auto-detect its type, then trace. Results appear as collapsible roots with separate origin, inspection, movement, current-balance, related-control and document sections.
Field reference
The entries below describe the current screen controls and read-only values. They do not relax server-side validation, site scope, classification handling or required independence in a governed decision.
| Field or value | Control | Required or shown when | How to use or read it | Result |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Batch or serial identity | Search, paste or scanner | Required; at least two characters for discovery and an exact value for trace. | Use the physical batch or serial marking. Autocomplete and Browse return only identities visible in your scope. | Defines the requested custody identity without exposing hidden matches. |
| Identity type | Select | Optional; defaults to Auto-detect. | Choose Batch or Serial when the text could be ambiguous; otherwise keep Auto-detect. | Constrains the server query without changing identity data. |
| Search identities or items | Browse search | Optional; blank shows recent visible identities. | Search by identity, part number or item name, then select the exact row with its site/state/ownership context. | Sets the trace input and matching identity type. |
| Receipt origin | Read-only tree | Derived when authoritative receipt-line provenance exists. | Review receipt number, quantity, site, supplier, PO and date. A missing origin remains explicit rather than inferred. | Explains backward provenance. |
| Quality inspections | Read-only tree | Derived. | Review lot, state/disposition, certificate reference, inspector and time for the exact identity. | Shows linked Quality evidence without changing disposition. |
| Custody movement chain | Read-only tree | Derived from the append-only ledger. | Read transaction type, business reference, signed quantity, state, site/location, ownership and actor in sequence. | Explains forward custody facts. |
| Current custody balances | Read-only tree | Derived from positive visible current-stock rows. | Treat no positive balance as a current-state result, not proof that hidden or historical stock never existed. | Shows authorised current location/state/ownership quantity. |
| Related controls and records | Read-only tree | Derived when linked evidence exists. | Review shelf-life, calibration, label, issue, transfer, return or subcontractor records without assuming they mutate one another. | Connects exact retained business references. |
| Documents and evidence references | Read-only tree | Derived and classification scoped. | Use source type, reference, filename and SHA-256 to locate the exact controlled evidence through its owning authority. | Provides metadata only; document access is still separately authorised. |
Actions and effects
When to use: When the exact batch or serial is not already known.
What it does: Returns and selects only authorised identities; it performs no custody query yet.
When to use: After an exact identity and type are ready.
What it does: Builds the scoped read-only genealogy from retained system-of-record facts.
When to use: When at least one trace root exists and the user has export authority.
What it does: Creates/downloads an attributable dossier from the same scoped evidence; it does not broaden visibility or move stock.
Lists and states
- Summary cards count roots, movements, locations, inspections and documents in the current authorised result.
- Collapsible genealogy roots keep origins, inspections, movements, balances, controls and documents separate so absence is not replaced by inference.
Authority boundary
Traceability is read-only evidence reconstruction. It cannot create missing provenance, expose out-of-scope identities, edit documents, change stock/custody or treat a design relationship as physical installation.
