Flow 31 — Released Engineering BOM to controlled manufacturing BOM
Translate every exact released design BOM line once into an immutable operation-allocated manufacturing definition, require Product Engineering design approval and a separate Production release, then gate plan creation on that release.
Overview
Flow 31 creates definition and review evidence only. Net quantity comes from the released design BOM/output quantity; process scrap derives gross issue evidence. It never edits Engineering, reserves or moves stock, changes custody or creates Assembly work.
Manufacturing Engineer author → different Product Engineer design reviewer → different Production Manager releaser → Manufacturing Engineer plan author → Auditor read-only
Process
- 1Freeze design
Resolve one active variant, released baseline, exact assembly CI/BOM and every approved component line.
Engineering read-only - 2Translate exactly
Cover each source line once and allocate operation, supply, issue mode and process scrap.
Definition only - 3Design review
Different Product Engineer recalculates source and immutable definition fingerprints.
No Production release - 4Production release
Different Production Manager accepts or rejects the approved version.
No stock/custody action - 5Gate planningREAD ONLY
Plan copies exact released MBOM materials and routing; stale sources fail closed.
Read-only hand-off
Role handoff
Manufacturing Engineer author → different Product Engineer design reviewer → different Production Manager releaser → Manufacturing Engineer plan author → Auditor read-only

Detailed steps
- 1
As Manufacturing Engineer, open Manufacturing → Manufacturing BOM and select one exact active assembly CI from a released baseline. Confirm every released BOM material appears once.
- 2
Define unique ordered setup/assembly/test operations, allocate each material to one exact operation, declare MAKE/BUY/STOCK and KITTED/POINT_OF_USE/BULK strategy, and enter process scrap. The server derives net and gross quantities.
- 3
Submit v1. As a different Product Engineer, reject it and confirm the version remains immutable. Create replacement v2 and approve only after exact source and definition fingerprint verification.
- 4
As a different Production Manager, release approved v2. Confirm Product Engineering cannot perform Production release and Production cannot perform design review.
- 5
Create a Flow 27 plan from released MBOM v2. Confirm the plan payload has no ad hoc routing; the service copies exact operations and material quantities and rejects changed Engineering source evidence.
- 6
As Auditor, reconcile one package, two immutable versions, exact per-version line coverage, separate reviews and unchanged Engineering, current_stock, stock_ledger, custody, Assembly and physical identity witnesses.
Field-by-field practice data
Translate one exact released Engineering handoff into a controlled Manufacturing BOM. The page shows sample set A; the workbook includes independent A, B and C values.
Field names match the current application labels. Select existing approved records where shown, leave optional values blank unless they genuinely apply, and never copy fictitious TRAIN values into live work.
Create the MBOM
Select the exact released PLM handoff and add manufacturing-only allocation without changing design lines.
| Exact field name | Requirement | Sample value A | How to use it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Released Engineering PLM handoff | Select existing | TRAIN-A-PLM-001 v1 | Select the current exact released handoff. |
| MBOM title | Required | TRAIN-A actuator MBOM | Use a unique controlled title. |
| Valid from | Required | 2026-10-01 | Start of manufacturing applicability. |
| Valid to | Required | 2027-09-30 | End of manufacturing applicability. |
| Process summary | Required | Kitted mechanical assembly, software load and final inspection. | Summarise the production translation. |
| Transformation rationale | Required | All EBOM lines preserved once; allocations added for routing and issue control. | Explain how design fidelity is retained. |
| Issue operation | Select existing | 20 · Mechanical assembly | Allocate the design line to one exact operation. |
| Supply strategy | Required | STOCK | Choose MAKE, BUY or STOCK as governed. |
| Issue mode | Required | KITTED | Choose the approved issue method. |
| Process scrap % | Required | 0 | Use evidence-backed process scrap only. |
| Handling instruction | Required | Preserve batch identity through assembly genealogy. | State manufacturing handling controls. |
Expected result: Product Engineering approves coverage and a third Production Manager releases the immutable version.
End state
One released MBOM retains exact released-design provenance, one-to-one material coverage, derived issue quantities, governed routing and separate Product Engineering/Production decisions, and becomes the mandatory source for new manufacturing plans without acquiring source or custody authority.
