49. Carried production WIP and cross-period completion
Start real unfinished process work, independently review incurred production/vendor costs at period end, then complete against closed carry authority.
Overview
Starting consumes actual inputs without finished receipt. Only incurred conversion/service enters WIP; later measured output requires valuation and independent Quality release.
Production recorder, separate starter/receiver, independent WIP reviewer, Cost Accountant, different settlement approver and separate fiscal closer
Process
- 1Start and value actual workREDUCED
Consume approved inputs and record only incurred conversion minutes; keep unfinished supply and capacity.
Inputs consumed; no finished stock - 2Review and close carried WIPREAD ONLY
Review exact unfinished process/vendor custody and incurred costs, independently settle base-currency actual cost and close the period.
Exact material and incurred WIP retained - 3Complete and inspect laterCREATED
After contiguous reviewed/settled/closed periods, measure outputs/loss and additional incurred time, independently receive, value and release Quality.
Actual output and COGS relieve WIP once

Detailed steps
- 1
Choose Start unfinished work; receive later for an ordinary approved process recipe and its required finite batch. Record actual inputs and already incurred time.
- 2
A different Manufacturing approver posts only input consumption and retains incurred conversion evidence; Finance independently values inputs and capitalizes conversion through carry review or output valuation.
- 3
Select actual unfinished process or staged vendor work in Period-end production WIP. Resolve pending execution requests and obtain a reviewer outside the physical participants.
- 4
Vendor carry capitalizes only exact posted primary/rework service and nonrecoverable tax. Actual settlement retains originating material differences once; a separate closer reconciles WIP and closes.
- 5
In the next contiguous OPEN period record measured process outputs, loss and additional incurred minutes, or continue the independently approved vendor receipt workflow.
- 6
Value exact output, record sampled FINAL results and obtain an independent usage decision. Native delivery and later actual settlement reconcile remaining inventory, COGS and WIP.
Field-by-field practice data
Training {{case}} real unfinished production and independently closed fiscal carry. The page shows sample set A; the workbook includes independent A, B and C values.
Field names match the current application labels. Select existing approved records where shown, leave optional values blank unless they genuinely apply, and never copy fictitious TRAIN values into live work.
Start real unfinished process work
Choose Start unfinished work; receive later on an ordinary approved recipe. Consume 8 + 2 + 2 input units, record incurred labour/work-centre minutes 2 + 2 at rates 2 + 1, and value original inputs.
| Exact field name | Requirement | Sample value A | How to use it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Execution | Select existing | Start unfinished work; receive later | Use the original scale and finite schedule authority. |
| Already incurred labour minutes | Required | 2 | Only actual incurred time is posted; planned future conversion remains excluded. |
| Already incurred work centre minutes | Required | 2 | Keep measured time within the original approved remaining limit. |
Expected result: No finished stock is received. Actual material 144 plus incurred conversion 6 is WIP 150 after period settlement.
Review, settle and independently close WIP
Select the unfinished source and completed OPEN period. Review exact material/value ancestry and incurred conversion or vendor primary/rework service. Settle base-currency actual costs and close independently.
| Exact field name | Requirement | Sample value A | How to use it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Unfinished work | Select existing | TRAIN-A-WIP | Select actual started process or staged vendor work. |
| Physical progress and cost reconciliation | Required | TRAIN-A-WIP-RECONCILIATION | Attach CLEAN progress, custody and accounting evidence. |
Expected result: Retained actual WIP equals the control ledger; later completion requires every prior carry period closed.
Complete, inspect and settle in the next period
In the next contiguous OPEN period measure outputs 6 + 3 + 1 and loss 2; record additional incurred labour/work-centre minutes 2 + 2. Independently receive, value and inspect output before delivering two primary units.
| Exact field name | Requirement | Sample value A | How to use it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Additional incurred labour minutes | Required | 2 | Approved rate is retained; no repeated absorption of the original two minutes. |
| Measured loss in common balance unit | Required | 2 | Original consumed quantity 12 equals measured output 10 plus loss 2. |
| Completion evidence and rationale | Required | TRAIN-A-WIP-COMPLETION | A reviewer outside the original recorder/starter posts actual receipt. |
Expected result: Total actual cost remains 156. With weights 6:3:1, primary delivered COGS is 31.2 and primary closing inventory 62.4; WIP clears exactly.
End state
Actual unfinished costs cross fiscal boundaries without fabricated output, duplicated absorption or repeated service expense. Cyclic, tracked/intercompany and foreign-currency WIP remain separate.
